On Thursday, I flew to Melbourne for a short holiday. I had never been to Melbourne before, I had heard many interesting places to go and check out and I was anxious to see what Melbourne had to offer. Coming from a small city in Adelaide, Melbourne is like New York City. There are buildings everywhere and tall, the people roaming the streets constantly every single day, it was extremely refreshing. Melbourne is much more cooler and quirky with street art, small cafes and boutiques from high end designers to vintage. Looking like a tourist, I took many pictures throughout my four days in Melbourne and these are the ones that I thought I would share with you all. I would definitely recommend visiting Melbourne if you have not been before because it is definitely worth visiting. I will be posting what I bought from Melbourne soon! so stay tuned.  

STYLE INSPIRATION TUESDAY: OLSEN TWINS

This weeks style inspiration goes to the biggest style icons of our time, the Olsen twins (Mary-Kate and Ashley). For years now both Olsen twins have given us many different styles from boho, rock and roll, new york cool and parisian chic. Both of their styles have constantly evolved and have only gotten better over the years and for me, their style has influenced my own and the way I think about fashion. They made 'oversized' cool with oversized knits, sweaters and t-shirts, which is now how I personally dress every single day, the bigger the better. There is at least one style that every woman/man can take inspiration from the Olsen twins that can be incorporated into your wardrobe, for fall/winter buy an oversized sweater that'll be your staple piece for the colder months and definitely invest in a good pair of leggings in different textures that will give your look some interest. In terms of footwear you can basically wear anything from a heel to a flat, or even a sports shoe and a boot depending on what your specific style is and what you like. Another reason why I love them is that with their label 'The Row' they focus on good quality materials which I believe is essential if you want your garments to last a life time. Even if it costs a little bit more to buy, it is worth it in the long run, so when looking for your staple pieces for the season definitely consider the material strength and go to stores that have garments made from long lasting material. Invest in a good bag, an Olsen twin always has a bag, in any shape/colour/size/texture because we all need somewhere to put our things in. Lastly hair and make-up, their make up seems to always be fresh and dewy, nothing to heavy or dramatic and with the hair it is usually down and almost beachy (invest in sea salt spray to get beachy styled hair) or bed hair style which anyone can achieve. With these tips you can definitely achieve your inner Olsen twin! 

FIRST GARMENT: GIVENCHY INSPIRED SWEATER

Our class finished certificate two in fashion design and technology early, so our lecturer suggested that we make something we have always wanted to make and he would help us make it. Immediately my brain started spinning with a million different things I had seen from the runway from Balenciaga, Givenchy to Rick Owens. Immediately I remembered seeing this cropped sweater from the mens Givenchy show in fall and spring, then I thought that it would be a perfect layering piece for winter. Immediately I looked for black fabric that would be warm enough to wear for winter because it wouldn't be a full jumper so fabric choice was essential for the practicality of this garment. A week and a half later this was the end result. At the moment it is still too warm to wear but when winter comes around, this will definitely be my winter staple piece for the season. 

STYLE INSPIRATION TUESDAY: PELAYO DIAZ (KATE LOVES ME)

This weeks style inspiration tuesday is Pelayo Diaz who runs the blog katelovesme. I have been obsessed with his style for about two years when I found his blog whilst googling something. I love the way he mixes high and low, for example he will wear a balenciaga neoprene sweater with shorts from american apparel and doc martens which gives his style more authenticity and interests a larger region of readers not just those who can afford expensive clothing. I love the way he doesn't think of clothing and accessories as menswear and womenswear but what works with his style and he does a great job of pulling off women's clothing/accessories (his pink celine tote and balenciaga cut out boots are my favourite pieces of his) and making them masculine and tough. To pull of his style you definitely need a few good pairs of jeans in different colours, a really good leather jacket and a bold printed t-shirt or sweater (to be your focal point of your outfit). For accessories and shoes do not be limited just by mens, explore the women's section and work out what you think you could actually pull off and make it look like it belongs as a mens piece.
